i only mentioned cullip and butters being in there to inform spur that his choice had competition that was not seconed best. there are several others who have the knowledge and personality..and a couple of non starters. as i said...ibbo and the bod have a wealth of talent to choose from.

I think any idea of appointing a less competant manager because success would be undesirable and unsustainable is ludicrous! I'm not in favour of SK but this is no reason not to appoint him.
Blackpool's promotion to the Premier League was unfortunately unsustainable in the end but would any of their fans have prefered a season of mid-table security in the Championship last season? I think not.

Good points from foulkesy and indeed it has been an interesting debate. We'll know soon enough and then all be interested in who the new man brings in for his coaching staff and what players are recruited. Have to say I am more optimistic already for next season as we should find ourselves at a level in which we can be competitive. After all that has happened remaining in BSS was like treading treacle. But we should be aware that this division will be far from a walk in the park and any of the top half dozen sides last season would be able to equip themselves at a step higher. I believe that the BoD should make aware to all the playing budget and the ambitions that the club can afford. Other clubs do so and it allows an understanding of a clubs circumstances and removes unrealistic expectations.
We should know who soon. So all behind the new man.

I shan't mention that name again this side of a decision (and have we contacted Carlo Ancelotti?), but by second best I simply meant someone untried at this level and possibly lacking (i.e. a gamble) when it comes to meeting the club's aspirations. In that sense Tosh and Smudger were second best . . . and wouldn't those names you mention fit into that category?

Honest, I'm trying not to get drawn in again; I am, really.
But for them as mention You Know Who: managerial Second Comings are often not all they're cracked up to be, are they?
Mike Walker?
Howard Kendall?
Mickey Adams?

Didn't Kevin Keegan make a reappearance? Kevin Keehan could be an interesting rearrival. I think "Guiam" would prefer him to Stephen King. But I wouldn't.

i have heard on the grapevine of sussex football that john maggs now ex horsham might be in the running. good experience at ryman level but constrained at horsham. with the great support lewes have had certainly last season, he would surely put a very competetive team together.

If it's Maggs then we really are in trouble and best be prepared to stand still for the next few years. There are better younger more ambitious candidates in the mix. If the BoD were to go with Maggs I would have serious misgivings of their ability to run the footballing side of a football club.

:DTo introduce a note of irony. Two horses with King as part of their name won at Brighton in the first two races there today. The second winner was Bling King at 14 - 1 in the 2.30. That was always our Steve - King of Bling. I was going to back it but unfortunately I'd agreed to have a mussels and chips lunch with Derrick Parris and Peter Hiscox at the Ship today and got to Ladbrokes too late at 3pm! Damn it - I even told Peter and Derrick at lunch about the 'king and horses' coincidence because a whole load of horses with King in their name had won recently. Of course it doesn't mean Kingy is coming back as Lewes Manager but I've always found that a good coincidence bet beats studying form every time! Funnily enough, Regal Realm also won today at 25 - 1. So tonight I depress myself working out winning doubles, trebles and accumulators that could have earned myself enough money to retire. But then I am retired!

This made me laugh when I saw Farnborough fans discussing on their forum who their next manager should be:
"Hopefully Sin my opinionn has a plan to make the money off the pitch - then if/when we get regular four figure attendances we can look to progress.
Tim O'Shea for me! "
Was he joking??
