We have Ciardini, he is new to us, besides we only have 5 players signed plus the 4 already at lewes King is speeking to so we still need 2 more just to have 11 and we will need more than that anyway, so basically I am sure we will see some *new* players.

Max Ellison Hustwick. I remember him well. He was a very good player in his first spell here. He was a centre back who could actually play a bit too. But what does this mean for Breachy?
Warren Houghton scored the only goal in the play off final v Kingstonian.

Been looking on the Kingstonian forum and they don't seem to rate him, I guess we will see.

With Robinson, Hustwick and if we can keep Breach that would give us 3 very good center backs at ryman prem level.

Are we actually going to get any *new* players? Did any of you really expect to see many local players retained or indeed the same old faces not returning. They are loyal to King for a reason. He's a successful manager who's success has been based on a nucleus of players he rates and trusts from London, a decent budget and not upon bringing local players through the system. This is what you all wanted remember?!

Yes I do expect to see local players but lets be realistic here. We also want success, so the local players will have to be integrated over a period of time and on merit. Is this not why Sin my opinionn Wormull has been appointed? Steve King said: "I've brought him on board because I think he's a great example to kids of how to play the game. His coaching style will mirror that of the first team. In fact, he'll also be working with the first team so that we can have really close links between the two sides."

A bit of each will do me fine. I do expect the majority of the squad to not be locals though. We have tried the "locals" route and it hasn't really worked. We were heading towards R1S and Worthing again. I don't mind "the same old faces" if they do the business without denting the finances.

Duku has been to several clubs since he left Lewes. He is now at Dulwich Hamlet. The last time I saw him he was playing for Welling in our title winning season. He was part of the team that we beat 4-0 away and was made to look rather cumbersome that day. But we did play well that day, and I never tire of these highights. Watch Binnsy go round him for the 4th goal:
Another centre back who was quite good, who I think partenered Duku for a while, was Ochea Ipka. Whatever happened to him?

Why is there an obsession with local players? If there were good enough local players then surely they would be in the squad. Personally, I don't care if where our team comes from providing we play some good, football, all the players are playing for the shirt, we stick to the budget and we get back to the BSS as soon as possible.

I couldn't disagree more with this kind of outlook. You have to ask, 'What is Lewes FC for?'. With the best will in the world it is inconceivable that Lewes could ever get higher than the BSP, particularly given that we are now a Community Club rather than the plaything of some rich sugar daddy. So, for me, it has to be about more than just a bunch of hired journeymen winning a few games and maybe getting promoted. One of the few pleasures I've had at the Pan in the past couple of seasons is seeing local kids come through and have a go. I'd like to see, long term, the youth set-up become a big part of how we build a squad. Then, if one of those players now and again, moves on to a full-time pro club, fantastic.

www.lewesfc.com/news/2011/06/19/hustwick-returns-to-the-pannews now on the website. King says he will have a "small squad" So presumably he is having a smaller squad of good quality players on the budet rather than a bigger one with average players- showing that he will stay with the budget! Could work have to hope we don't have too many injury problems though. Oh and more signings this week it says too, any guesses?

I agree. Dont get me wrong we have seen some very good players come from the youth system e.g. David Wheeler, Jack Walder, Ross Sutton etc But i really dont care what squad we see out as long as when the 90 minutes is up i leave the pan or wherever with a smile on my face knowing that the admission fee was well worth it. 3 points would be nice aswell But going back to the start of last season under ibbo when there was many local players playing a lot of people on the fourm were saying (myself included) are some of these players really good enough for bss standard? But anyway happy times lie ahead now under the king COME ON YOU ROOKS !

People who say that there is not enough local/sussex players up to the required standard show their ignorance of local football and players plying their trade at various Sussex clubs. Look at East Boro and the majority of their players are Sussex based or have played for Sussex sides. I appreciate that SK will bring in his trusted journeymen but I do hope there is a smattering of 'local' players. And to say the 'local' system was used by Ibbo is poppycock as he was forced to play too many young players who were always going to be up against it. A small squad means higher wages for those players. These players are journeymen, there for the money and not because of any affinity to the club. The squad having to be supplemented by on-loan deals should the treatment room fill up. Should in the future, there be a parting of the ways, these players will leave just as they left the Pan before and Farnboro since. SK will produce an entertaining side, let's wait to see the squad make up and performances before making judgement.
Perhaps a wage capping in non-league football should be introduced as it is in Div 2 and soon to be extended to Div 1 in the Football League. 60% of income limit for wages.
