Who are these people that think they can legislate on grassy banks. If people think they are dangerous or don't like them then they should not go on them. End of.
Except to say that if people should want a thread about Crawley, could they please start one called that rather than join this one.

They should get everyone to sign a disclaimer, therefore if anyone hurt themselves whilst on the banks then its there problem and not the clubs;-)

I think the grassy bank days are over but couldn't we allow a couple of trained volunteers to do the ball boy role on the Mountfield Road side? There's no need for our players or our opponents to jump over a hurdle as well as playing football.

so it's alright for ball boys to stand there but not for people to sit there!!!!! I think concrete steps are much more dangerous - especially when people have had a few pints! Agree about the stewards - they like telling kids off but make themselves scarce if a few nasty blokes about. Finally - surely it's time for grassbanker to come home - otherwise he is just a bloke who stands by a rail above a grass bank...

Forget the grassy banks. Those days are past especially as the Rookery Stand now occupies the only reasonable bank there was to sit on. Unfortunately due to broken ankles and strained ligaments of spectators and players alike it would be foolhardy to allow a presence on this area. Nor can people sign a disclaimer and sit there as the ultimate responsibility is that of the club. Can't understand why anyone would think the terreces are dangerous.... errrr... just drink less then you won't be unsteady on your feet.

Roz the photographer broke (or something like that) her ankle a few years back on the grass bank. I think that helped sound the death knell for keeping the grass banks off limit.

I know someone has already mentioned it but why does the club not have ball boys. Surely there must be some youngsters that would love to volunteer to be close to the action. It would help to keep the game flowing and I think it looks a bit 'county league' to see the players climbing over hoardings to retrieve the ball.
Also, how about a decent announcer. Someone that can pronounce the players names. A run down of the team prior to kick off would be good as well. We often arrive about five minutes before kick off and have missed the announcing of the teams. Last season this was a major problem as I didn't recognise half the team from one match to the next. One of the BODs did it for a couple of matches last season and I thought it was a great improvement.

It's probably health and safety reasons again. If the bank is not safe for the public then it's not safe for ball boys either. What would be ideal is a 1 metre or so concrete or tarmac path around the perimeter from the Philcox right down the Mountfield Road side to meet up with the concrete area by the Ham Lane End turnstiles. People could stand there safely and you wouldn't need ball boys. It would ease a lot of the congestion in front of the bar/dressing room steps area too, as everyone wouldn't need to go that way to get to and from the Ham Lane End. I've always thought it was a bit daft leaving the Mountfield Road side as a dead end.
How about Stanley Unwin as the P.A man? ;D ;D ;D
If you don't know who he is ask your parents or.........:

Piddlinghoe, PJ is spot on. The club would very much like to have ball boys/girls but due to health and safety reasons unfortunately it's a non starter.

A concrete/asphalt path long the Mountfield Road edge of the pitch sounds like a very good idea. Probably no money for such a scheme at the moment and I would think not the most important job on the books (floodlights and toilets take priority) but something to consider for the future.
