If Wheeler goes to Crawley, it just goes to show how much we have let him down for the past three years.

Latest up to date news on this. It is thought that young David is too lightwieght and the search moves on. Despite this, my advice to him is to just sign Ryman forms, no contract, because things change and he could better himself. I'm surprised some of you lot would prevent his progress just to keep him at your level. He's better than that.

With their money I thought Crawley were only interested in experienced league players. I wouldn't have thought they would be interested in a local kid. Even if he is good.

Crawley want to buy him to put him out on loan to a team lower in the league to us like BHA did with Grant Hall.

Crawleyboy1 I do not want to prevent his progress which is exactly why I don't want him to sign for Crawley.

Crawleyboy1 I do not want to prevent his progress which is exactly why I don't want him to sign for Crawley. Exactly ! he'll be sitting in the reserves where as his getting first team experience and learning more than he ever would at crawley. we would never stand in the way of a player who had the potential of success at a higher level but i feel it wouldnt be the right move for him

with no disrespect to David..from what I saw from last year, he is undoubtedly very quick and when up against a relatively slow full back, he can look a million dollars, but when he's come up against an equally quick fullback and needs to try to use touch, skill and try to outfox the fullback, he has looked very average.
He is of course very young still and if he can add close control to his game and have another side to his game, he may well end up in league football. But for me, as it is right now, he isn't ready. So it would be best for him to sign here and have a season where with a strong squad, he should look a really good player and then see what happens.
This isnt a snipe at David, as he has been the standout from our youth system, its just my honest opinion of a player.

Anyway, back to the subject of the thread..........Dave Wheeler.
I hope he stays. With a decent bit of service he would be dynamite, especially in the league we find ourselves in now. I tend to agree with Outsider...With the ball at his feet, stopped, and face-on to a decent full back he is nothing special. At pace, when he can knock the ball past the full back, or chasing the accurate through ball slotted into the space behind the defence, now that is his strength and he will kill defences with that. I think we have lacked anyone who can give him that sort of service for the past 3 seasons. If we get someone who can do that then we will really see the best of Dave.

David has been incredibly loyal already. Last season was difficult for him because of illness and injury. With some decent players around him, he could enjoy his best season yet. I think he is Lewes through and through. Did he not join Ibbo on a bike ride 2 seasons ago to raise much needed funds for the club?
