:DI don't usually post on team selection but what the heck, these are such exciting times and the buzz around Lewes right now is just electric. I hear that Steve King would like to make the retention of David Wheeler a keystone to building his new Lewes team. I understand that David would really like to play for Lewes again next season. So let's hope it happens and maybe we can give this idea some encouragement on this thread. Ian Simpemba is another great favourite of mine and I'd be surprised if conversations were not taking place. The feel-good factor is back big time and though we mustn't by any means get carried away with thoughts of League-leadership/play-offs and all that I think we are all entitled to yell to the rafters: Come on you Rooks!

After meeting Mr Marber and Mr King yesterday I am genuinely giddy for the new season to begin.
Anyway, come on Wheels - get signed and lets have a Binns/Wheels partnership for next year.

Brilliant. My heart dropped when I saw this thread at first because it was underneath the "Walder Leaves" one so I read it as Wheeler leaves . If he stays it will be fantastic!

And let's not forget the massive vote-winning Lewes FC Player of Last Season, Chris Breach. I hear also he definitely wants to stay with Lewes if he's wanted. Hopefully he will figure in Steve's plans. As I said earlier I rarely comment on team selection as I am in no way qualified but as a fan I'd be well happy to see a Lewes team with David Wheeler, Chris Breach and Ian Simpemba in the frame - along with Chris Winterton in goal. I'll stop there - don't get me started on strikers. My only advice to Steve is: Phone Booth!

I seem to remember David Wheeler coming on as sub in one of Kingy's last games in charge at the pan. (Please correct me if I am wrong). Since the parting of ways, Kingy has quite openly courted David Wheeler. I hope it works out as I would love to see David have a successful season as a reward for his tremendous loyalty. Fingers crossed.

Thank you for that David it was certainly a massive sigh of relief clicking onto this page and it not saying that he is leaving. It is fantastic that he wants to stay as it is Breach. I hope King signs them both of on and as agreeing with other comments a Wheeler Binns partnership on both flanks and a centre back partnership with Breach and Simpemba.

I'd be gutted if Wheeler left. A very passionate, exciting player and a local lad. Perhaps too heavily relied on last season and it would be great if the team had one or two more creative players to take some of the pressure off of his shoulders.

I guess a lot will depend on whether Wheeler has an agent.

i believe Mr Keehan gave Wheeler his debut against Torquay in the Conference early 2009. King never drew from u18s, which is not a surprise given gap from 17 to the 26 year olds and up who play in non-league. i hope some way can be found for local guys in late teens early twenties can be involved on fringe of squad - every once in a while we will get a Wheeler or a Hall. People seemed unhappy at thought of reserves in other threads. I would have thought the other player King spoke to is Hamilton. By the way is Barness retiring? I thought he was a great servant in difficult times.

SK did actually give David his first team debut. He came on in the SSC semi-final defeat against Brighton and also made his league debut under King coming on against WSM on the last day of the season. Keehan did give him his full debut though.

Quote from Kingy: “I had a meeting with David Wheeler and told him my position,” he said. “And I also offered him a new contract, so we’ll see how that goes. And I spoke to one other player.”
I really hope Wheeler signs that new deal it would be amazing.
When talking about players such as Robbo and Booth andmore from the title winning squad he said:
“I will have to wait and see on that. What you have got there is what any team wants – they are winners. And everybody wants winners, so they’re not easy to get hold of. But I’m talking to certain individuals who used to play at this club, so we’ll see.”

I would imagine that a lot of the Farnborough squad will be in demand by the supposedly bigger clubs in BSS after their good showing last season. SK will have his work cut out trying to get them to drop a league and probably take a pay cut. On the plus side some of them seem loyal to him and he has a record of being very persuasive.
Wait and see I guess.

Thanks HoveRook I thought I was imagining it. Of course that game against WSM was a sad day for many. Better times ahead I am sure.

Even if David David Wheeler decides to leave Lewes, he has certainly earned his place in the hall of fame. But I'd love to see him for at least one more season with some players who can support him and make the most of his undoubted commitment, pace and reading of the game.

I don't second what Crawleyboy1 said, David, do sign soon and be part of the Lewes rollercoaster!
