As anyone who has been involved in running a football club will tell you it can be a thankless task. So thank you for those who've laboured long and hard to get the club on an even keel.
Last Wednesday evening a 'gang of three' (Ibbotson, Marber and Dobbes) were camped out at the Kings Head obviously in the final throes of the managerial selection process only to be thwarted by the arrival of the Lewes Tweeters for their monthly 'Tweet Up'. Discretion being the better part of valour they left but not before a conversation about the forthcoming appointment and renewing my season ticket.
I am delighted to tell you gentlemen that my cheque will be in the post just as soon as you announce the price.
Having spent 25 years at County League level it has been a delight to come along without having to worry about the gate, teas, nets, showers, players turning up, and enjoy (suffer) the last 4 years watching what is now my home club.
In that time I can count the quality performances against good opposition on one hand. 5-2 vs Dover at home on Boxing Day after being 2-0 down. For sheer professionalism the stand out performance was 2-0 away at Boro on New Years Day in BSS with Steve King at the helm. I recall his team as being organised, having a solid spine, the ability to compete for 95 minutes and nick late goals.
While his appointment has generated much comment (not all of it complimentary) the new season can't come quickly enough for me.
The past is the past, the future is bright!
