Not too surprised he's been out a while and probably wouldn't fit in with SKs new squad, good luck to him, he is a good player.

Well lets hope this is not a sign of things to come, good young players leaving the club because they wont fit in with SK's new squad. Really would have been nice to see young walder having completed a good pre season and playing in the Rooks colours for the coming season. Good luck young man, you deserve a big slice of it after your injury.

A bit hasty maybe - surely it's a bit early for him to know whether he would have been in SK's plans?

I doubt King would have had anything to do with Walder leaving, we are the same league as Hastings and Walder knows Jason so he has gone to him, he wont have had a contract with Lewes, so he would have been just able to go. As Eastie says he just needs to prove his fitness and he will progress to a higher league, so from his point of view he might as well have gone to the manager he knows.

couldnt have said it better, plus he signed for Hastings because THEY wanted him and because they treated him and looked after his re-hab. Good luck Jack !

Great shame hes signed elsewhere so quick. Im sure if kingy knows about him, he would of been one of the first to call Jack. If he stays injury free, is destined for league football in my opinion.

couldnt have said it better, plus he signed for Hastings because THEY wanted him and because they treated him and looked after his re-hab. Good luck Jack ! In fairness, I think there were efforts from the previous management team to work with Jack, however he never returned to the club following his surgery and therefore, if someone doesn't turn up, you can't help them.

O'Shea never made contact with him once and after surgery when he was off crutches he watched a few games. No efforts were made to contact him at all.

definately were no efforts. Jack went where he was wanted and they even helped with his rehab, lewes did not make any contact as eastie says above. A real shame as Jack was one of a few worth keeping !

Players move on from clubs all the time, the only question is whether the club have been fair in the treatment of players, and explained the position to them.
I dont know if SK saw Jack Walder play, so if not he cannot really have an opinion on whether he had a first team place in prospect. Jack would need to prove his fitness, but would need to feel he would be given the chance to stake a claim.
Basically it is down to communication, from both sides. The first task on taking a new job is to talk to all the people affected. Give them a call, invite them back to training, and say that everyone starts with a clean slate. No guarantees, but a promise of consideration.
Although it is the responsibility of the club, if Jack Walder had not heard from the club, he could ring up himself. At the end of the day, we do not want to lose good players like Walder through carelessness. Jason must rate him, like all Rooks fans I know, to bring him to Hastings.
It is easy to get sentimental about players you are used to seeing, without looking at the big picture. I just worry that others might slip out the door to Hastings or other local clubs, without being given a go. Pearson is a decent player in the making, and Crellin looked like he might have something to offer, but SK would need to work with them to form a view.
It will be a pity if we see players coming back with other clubs who could have done well in the red and black!

I've heard phonecalls haven't been made to a lot of the players and that they have been left in limbo. Chris Winterton was one so I wasn't surprised to see him go.
Also, Eastie, is it true that Jack wasn't interested in signing for Lewes even if a call was made? Just a rumour that he didn't want to sign for the club under SK and that as he was so well looked after by Hastings, he chose to go there.
Understandable really if that's the case.
Best of luck to Jack.

I think we now need to focus on the future not the past.
The fact is we were relegated last season and the squad needed a major clear out.
I'm sure Steve King knows what has to be done and come the start of the season we will have a decent squad in place. There is plenty of time yet and there will be plenty of players who can't get fixed up at a higher level who will then become available.
