who remembers a former chairman at the pan....gordon lucking. after casting his eyes round sussex football....and being courted by certain persons...who will remain nameless...gordon is now ready to put 2 or 3 million pounds into the takeover and revival of worthing fc. the friend who told me this has never been wrong. gordon has been involved in property in florida and has extensive business interests all over the south of england. as a former board member of crystal palace in their high times, it seems that he has been approached by several clubs but examination of the offers has shown that woody road is his choice...their debt being manageable. he never considered a return to the pan as he knew his previous time was not considered mutually beneficial . it is also part of the story that he wants jimmy quinn there as manager. i spoke to jimmy. he does not intend to return to football...but a full time position may change his mind. interesting times in sussex football...

I wasn't that involved with Lewes at that time, never met him and so can't speak from personal experience. What I can say, though, is that I have never spoken to anyone who had a good word to say about the bloke. Several longer standing supporters have told me he took everything not nailed down and destroyed everything else including loads of irreplaceable Lewes memorabilia. He sounds a really nice bloke! Best of luck with that one Worthing.

Thank goodness he cant come back to the pan, although i suppose his £30 could get him a vote. My concerns are for Worthing supporters and I hope they get a board like we have at Lewes Come on you Rooks

in fairness to mr. lucking, he arrived at the club during a time when those in charge were putting their heads in the sand regarding the bills. in fact, i know that certain people walked away and left old vic with the solicitors letters. those who doubt...ask vic. the unknown bills were ridiculous and the mess left by those wasters could not be fixed....leading to the situation where a plea was made to martin elliot. yes...lucking left the club, but it was more to do with outstanding and unreported bills. i know who is responsible for this... so good luck to mr. lucking in his quest to own a club. this time, he wont be conned by the locals. i wish him well. i also hope he can talk jq back into the game.

i understand that talks are already in progress...i think that a debt free and decent business plan...and the right manager with a decent budget...the rebels will be a force in the future.

Wasn't involved with Lewes when Lucking left but have heard the stories.
However I seem to remember him entering the Lewes changing room pre-game in the Sx Cup win against Boggy and wishing us luck and also him attending one of the big games under Kingy, possibly v Weymouth and in the Boardroom afterwards handing over a cheque for a couple of grand purely because he had been so well entertained.
So I guess there's always two sides of the coin. In any case, after some of the crap that has gone on at Worthing during the last decade, it would be good to see them restored as a force. The more good teams in Sussex can only be good for the county in the long run.

Interesting link I picked up from the Worthing forum with quotes from Billy: www.theargus.co.uk/archive/1999/11/12/The+Argus+Archive/6798423.Lewes_face_a_battle_to_survive/Worthing deserve some luck. It has been too bleak for too long at Woodside Road and I would like to see the return of the local derbies we had against them. Preferably with them coming up rather than us going down again! Some games I will never forget will be the abandoned Boxing Day game when 2-0 down and heading for defeat, and then winning the rearranged game. 3-0 I think? Then there was Darren Freeman hitting the bar with that last minute penalty and the ball coming back down into the 6 yard area? That miss could have changed the futures of our two clubs quite a lot. Best of luck to them. I just hope they nail down everything in the clubhouse.

the truth is that most clubs in sussex are desperate for money..not just for the ego mad managers and greedy greedy players...but the cost of keeping a club going. electric bills, water, rent and petrol for the mower...then the travelling... an examination of several clubs will show a debt which is growing and a turnover in reverse. thats why...nomatter who offers change and improvement..most fans would embrace the offer. morty has been downsizing worthing for years. his decisions regarding horsham...the pooky gang...and numerous staff changes have now come to a head. we all know the complicated grip he has on the stadium. i started to watch the rebels when barry lloyd played an outstanding team including bruce aitken, kevin foreman and plenty of other great rebels. i even went there when kieth rollo was struggling with the smith gang...and morty. so it is with hope that the rebels can once again become the force they deserve to be...and even pay micky edmunds for the bricks. somewhat overdue... so good luck to mr. lucking.
